Post Conference 

Friday 6th october guests are invited to partisapate in a Post conference.   Health and safety issues associated with tourism and adventure activities continue to attract interest from researchers from diverse disciplines.  One area of tourist activity that has received only limited attention is the increasing adventure tourism sector. 

Client safety is a major risk management concern for the commercial tourism sector in Iceland. On Friday, Safetravel will host a post conference dedicated to this. 

Safetravel is an injury prevention project of the Icelandic Association of Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR) aimed at providing travelers with information and resources for safe travel in Iceland. The project was founded in 2010 and has since grown to include a variety of features including information screens, travel plan submissions, a travel conditions map, the Safetravel app, webchat with a member of staff, and more.

Volcano tour

On Saturday October 7th  we have organized a special day tour to the eruption site in the Reykjanes peninsula.

Participants will be picked up at Hilton Reykjavik Nordica reception at 9:30 sharp.  Be sure to bring warm clothes for rain and/or snow, including hats and mittens, and wear good shoes.

The Reykjanes peninsula lies where the North-Atlantic Ocean ridge comes ashore, and the manifestations of the continental rift zone between North America and Eurasia are prominent. Reykjanes (meaning the steam peninsula) features a unique volcanic landscape with 55 defined geosites, including the Fagradalsfjall volcano that erupted in 2021 and 2022. One more eruption started on July 7th at Mt Stóri-Hrútur but has finished now.

The tour will start by visiting Seltún, a colorful geothermal area right by the road and easily accessible.

From there we will head to view the lava fields of the recent volcanic eruptions.

13:00 Traditional Icelandic lunch at the base of ICE-SAR and Injury Prevention in Grindavík.
After lunch we will see a short introduction about the operations regarding the eruptions, amazing pictures and hear stories from the locals.

In Reykjavík, before arriving at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica, there will be a drop off at the swimming pool in Laugardalur (a walking distance from Hilton Reykjavík Nordica) for those who want to visit the swimming pool, make sure to bring swimwear and a towel.

Light snack and lunch is included in the tour.
